Words are Gifts

Silence

Sometimes we want to be alone

To swim in the sea of peace

No sound, tranquility

Only the hum of whatever is humming

Sometimes we want silence

Quietness that allows you to think

To search for your own meaning and the

Understanding of the world

Sometimes there is too much

Noise around us

It does not give us time to reflect

Re-energise our thoughts

This steals time away

Sometimes we need to find moments of

solitude, of peace and quiet

to reflect on the here and now

Serving to face the future

A future of hope and love.

  2. Wow, Juliette, as Terje said, what a perfect read in the morning. (It’s just past noon, but I think of it as morning still, since this is a weekend day for me.) I love the quiet, and I just sat for a moment taking in the quiet hums around my apartment and outside my window. Your last stanza says so much.

Sometimes we need to find moments of
    solitude, of peace and quiet
to reflect on the here and now
    Serving to face the future
A future of hope and love.

That’s a beautiful way of qualifying that tranquility is not empty.

  6. Appreciate this so much: Sometimes we want silence….

As a mother to four young kids, I feel this deeply. Sometimes we want silence.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful poem with us.

  7. This is my favorite:

    This steals time away

Amen to the too much noise. This is why I do not like going in restaurants and why I truly wish people could eat quiet foods in movies because the paper crinkling or the shaking of the popcorn against the cardboard container really irk me. It steals my ability to enjoy the movie.

  8. Yes. Quiet. Sometimes we DO need to close out the noise, all of the everything, and allow our selves to unfurl in the space that we create. THANK YOU for this beautiful poem.

  9. Love the way you circle back to ‘sometimes’ – four times, and by the time I get to the 4th time I really am feeling the solitude and quiet.

Hope you were able to carve it out! 🙂
