Reunion

Unplanned, we called each other and decided to go for lunch.

Initiated by offering to order and deliver a meal for each of the ladies. They suggested we meet for a holiday lunch. This was exciting as we had not met this year, 2023. We’ve been enjoying our daily messages by phone but had not seen each other face to face in a while.

Our childhood friendship, born out of the relationship between our parents and living in the same neighbourhood in the 1970s, made this more like an extended family.

We drove to A, picked her up, the news reel started. There was so much to share we did not stop till we got to our destination. Ab was waiting. We were a few minutes late but it did not really matter as the restaurant was quite empty.

Our excitement to reunite was more palatable than the meal. The company was special. Our fathers had the same relationship, they could count on each other.

Reminiscing, we continued our conversation after lunch on the comfy sofas in the lobby, till we knew it was time to leave, to plan for work the next day.

    What a special relationship you’ve cultivated through the years!
    My parents still live in the house where I grew up, but I only know their next door neighbors on both sides. Everyone else has moved away. BUT, my parents keep in touch with some of them. 🙂

    My favorite line is ‘the news reel started.’ What a nice group this is- no wonder you cherish these friends. Worth capturing in writing.

    An excellent slice! I have plans to see some of my childhood friends in a couple months, and your slice just upped my anticipation and already made me feel happier. Great opening line, and I know exactly what you mean about the news feel starting! Relatable and wonderful and uplifting – thank you for this!
