I have never struggled to come up with my annual One Little Word, but this year even though I had a few words circling in my head, I could not settle on a word.
Today, I shared a Youtube read aloud of a picture book, One Word for Kids by Dan Britton and friends, with my students. Every school year I encourage my students to come up with their one little word. Last year’s words were displayed in class and referred to often.
I facilitate a creative journaling After School Activity with a colleague. Her mini-activity today was for students to find images from magazines to frame their feeling. It was for students to visualise how they want to feel during this new year. They could find words that connect to the images . This was very effective.
I had a go, selected images from the magazines, and wrote around them.
The images shed light what I want to experience and feel in the year 2026. This great activity revealed three simple words to me:
Healthy
Nature
Adventure
Now, I have to find a way of combining them to come up with one word or just keep all three.
Could wellness cover all three? Probably.
