Stories He Shares

I’ve been following a local Ghanaian comedian who has an interesting concept. Every time I listen to him I am intrigued and now realize he is gaining a large audience. I came to the thought that humans really like a good story.

His strategy is different. He pretends to be on the phone to any of his relatives or acquaintances. His setting is always on a different packed bus and he purposely speaks loudly, so other passengers hear his part of the dialogue, which is the fuller part of the story.

He is a storyteller, sharing the controversial story with the person on the other side of the phone. He narrates his part of the story and pretends he is in a conversation, therefore repeating the exciting parts.

At the end of each of his conversations he states that he has to go, as he is on a bus and there are other passengers present. Knowing very well his whole story has been captured by the passengers. They burst into laughter (most of the time) as the stories, mainly about relationships are contentious. He speaks all this in his local dialect so everybody understands him.

What I gleen from it is that everybody likes a good story and there are stories all around us.

  1. You describe his routine really well. I can just imagine how it goes, and find myself wanting to listen to him, too! I like the idea of only hearing one side of the conversation. That would make an interesting slice format, too. Thanks for sharing!
