Words are Gifts

Moved by a Song

One of the songs by Kirk Whalum I listen to whilst ‘walking’, keeps ringing in my ears, even when I am not listening to it. I learned to take a few lines of the lyrics and write my own poem. This strategy I gained from this book, Alphapoetica by Kate M. Moore.

The Best Thing

May I call this an ode
Or a tribute to the mode
of writing I have chosen. It's
the best thing I have ever done

I have managed to gain
a respite that guides
and helps me
as I never feel disconnected

Many times, I tell myself
There's no place I'd rather be
than be charting my
thoughts and filling my cup

Although I continue to learn.
I also develop many new skills and
glean ideas from the best of them, it's
the best thing I have ever done.

About Me

I am an Elementary school teacher , I taught at an International IB School in Accra, Ghana. I am now teaching in Hanoi. Writing is my passion and I try to write daily, at least in my sentence a day journal, to capture all the blessings around me. I write with groups of writers, such as Teach Write and sometimes Ethical ELA. I also encourage my friends to write , so I created a platform to make that possible -Writing Run.
