Every 6th March, I share a snippet of Ghana as we celebrate our Independence day. Here is the slice from last year, 2023.
This year I’ll write about one of the March Teach write prompts- Kente Cloth.
Kente cloth is made by yarn woven on a loom mainly in a town in the Ashanti region and also in other parts of Ghana.
The demand and importance of the cloth has merited a Kente museum in Bonwire a town in the Ashanti region of Ghana. The history and the meaning of different yarns and their combinations are shared.
On a day like today, when celebrations are taking place, most of the cultural leaders, chiefs and queen mothers wear this elaborate fabric in all its majesty.
Here are my Independence day slices from the three previous years; 2020, 2021,2022.
