Words are Gifts

Greetings

My learning group and I created this list for mother tongue week. These are our mother tongues.

T (student) and I spent part of yesterday’s lunchtime creating this chart. He wrote the words and I had to do a little bit more research on Google Translate to check the spelling in the different languages.

The brilliant thing about collating this is that most of us could at least say the word hello in our language.

We are yet to come up with a way of using these diverse greetings in class when we are together.

  1. We use them as Morning Meeting greetings. We also sing the birthday song in at least four languages each time it is a class member’s birthday.

  2. My class did something similar in September. The resultant art project is still on our wall. (Might be time to replace it with something!)

  4. I like all those greetings. I have been trying to think of something to put on my door in the mornings, and maybe using your list will get me started! 🙂

About Me

I am an Elementary school teacher , I taught at an International IB School in Accra, Ghana. I am now teaching in Hanoi. Writing is my passion and I try to write daily, at least in my sentence a day journal, to capture all the blessings around me. I write with groups of writers, such as Teach Write and sometimes Ethical ELA. I also encourage my friends to write , so I created a platform to make that possible -Writing Run.
