Aprons is one of the March Writing prompts for Teach Write.
After church a few Sundays ago, when celebrating the UK’s Mothering Sunday in Accra, there was a nice surprise; the transformation of most of the men at church.
Men in coloured aprons. They adorned plain coloured aprons, red, blue, yellow and green aprons. Church members turned waiters. There were seats and tables set outside for the ladies, from the congregation.
The service then began. Chilled water to quench our thirst in the heat, other refreshing drinks were served after that. Then the starter, a light snack, after that boxes of goodies. Most of us nibbled it and chatted at our tables.
The ‘colors’ were still moving, clearing tables, serving us more drinks and chit-chatting with the ladies. Apparently the men’s groups contribute annually towards this celebration.
This I must say was a memorable Mothering Sunday for me, especially because I started worshipping at the Anglican church, post Covid so this was novel.
