Words are Gifts

Ring…ring….

The phone call came at an opportune time. I had planned to leave the event early, and was contemplating on my exit plan. How would I announce my early departure? Nobody would understand how I only attended the event for just an hour.

Everybody had joined the buffet, but since I had eaten lunch before leaving home, I was not hungry.

My friend teased,”Why did you eat lunch before attending a luncheon?’

I just smiled as no answer would have suffice.

As they were all eating, my phone rang.

“Ring…ring..”

That was a blessing, as I did not want to shout into the phone, I got up, heading to a quieter place which was out of the front gate, I continued chatting. THAT was my exit ticket!!

The burden of guilt stayed with me , so I sent a couple of messages to explain why I had to leave. The truth is, I had unexpected visitors waiting at home for me.

  4. This is compact and elegant. You take us into the moment and then pull us out with grace, and a satisfying conclusion.
