An Experience

She turned around and apologized for keeping me waiting.

I stopped to buy two items from the grocery store in my neighborhood, after school yesterday and ended up standing in the queue for a while.

There was a sudden scream from the young man at the till so I assumed it was a call for assistance. Yes it was! A young lady came rushing to the next till. She looked at me and asked,

“Visa, visa?”

I understood, she meant,” Are you paying by card?”

I said,” no”, and she repeated, “Visa only.”

That meant I had to stay put at the other till which was on a go slow because the customer being served had a trolley full of shopping. I was in no hurry, so moved and stood behind her. It took a while for her to complete the transaction. I guess she felt bad, so as she turned around and apologized.

I smiled and whispered, “It’s okay.”

I thought to myself, how polite and compassionate. She didn’t really have to apologize to me.

This made me think, that maybe, the people here are very considerate.

I’m sure she was grateful for your compassion. I love how you used dialogue and pointed out a lesson in this small slice.

  2. I have had to stand behind people who have many items as well. I never get upset because there were times others had to wait because of me. A smile ad apology go a long way.
