Words are Gifts

Early Saturday Morning

My Saturday mornings are blessings. Having a lie-in is a gift! Following Debbie and Kay‘s plan, my 5.30am to 6am story is as follows;

A stretch and a thought at 5.30am about what day it is. Knowing it is a Saturday helps, as I have now boycotted my Saturday morning Bootcamp class. I made other arrangements for my fitness regime which works for me. I now have an online coach, who visits me by WhatsApp after work, twice a week. I feel very comfortable as I am at home, in my own space and exercise at my own pace.

Whenever I stretch that early in the morning, I have a terrible habit of glancing at my phone. I do that because at 5.30am my family in Ghana and the U.K are just about getting ready to get to bed. I sometimes call for a short chat or reply a message or two before curling up and pulling my quilt right over my head.

I normally plan my Saturdays by Friday, so lying in bed I know exactly what my day will be like. Breakfast, shower, organise home, cook for Sunday’s ‘after church lunch’, plan for school, sleep, eat, sleep, eat and join my online prayer and writing groups.

Writing this makes me realise how much of my social life is lived online. I guess it is because I am far away from home!

  1. I think if your online balance works for you, then it works! I enjoyed the glimpse into your morning, but also the little snippets that added to the bigger meanings and reflections of who you are.

  2. I love how you describe “boycotting” the bootcamp in favor of something that works better to give your balance and control of your life. This is a strong description of who you are and the kind of person you are.

    If it weren’t for online communities, I would never have met you! I am very gateful for them. I have seen these 30-minute slices, but I wouldn’t have much to write about that early! 🙂

  6. I love that you have this time for yourself. And while you’re spending all this time online, it feels as a reader that you’re fostering both self-care and connection. Thanks for the peek into your rituals, rest well. 😉

  7. This is a great slice idea. I love that you have adjusted your Saturday mornings to fit what is good for you. I feel that some of my most important connections are done online.

  8. You paint a cozy picture of a lie in. You are waking up and yet you curl up to chat with family knowing they are winding down for the day. Your home sounds like your sanctuary and although much of your social life is online, you are so connected. I loved hearing about your routines like making ‘after church lunch’. These routines make being far from home comforting.
