Writing in the Courtyard

12.00am – 12.30pm, slice of my day

My recess duty was different today. I had students writing all around me. That filled me with joy.

One graphic book that was being written under one of the sheds, was about apples. The authors were so creative and descriptive I told the two that it made me feel very hungry.

The other book was the class’s part of the traveling tale, that a few students had taken it upon themselves to scribe, with an outline collected from the whole class, they chose to write during recess.

One of the Apple book’s authors was a member of my Journaling after school activity. With the other group, was a young lad also from my journaling activity. Both are elementary students.

We can find ways to grow writers in our community. What are some ways you are encouraging students at your school to write?

  1. LOVE that they are outside writing! And LOVE that they are collaborating on projects and working on them together. I’ve held after school writing clubs, and it’s fun to see what students write when they have total choice.

About Me

I am an Elementary school teacher , I taught at an International IB School in Accra, Ghana. I am now teaching in Hanoi. Writing is my passion and I try to write daily, at least in my sentence a day journal, to capture all the blessings around me. I write with groups of writers, such as Teach Write and sometimes Ethical ELA. I also encourage my friends to write , so I created a platform to make that possible -Writing Run.
