In my bid to escape from other screens, here I am concocting writing recipes to fill my leisure time. Interestingly I look forward to it.
This is very intentional as there is always work to complete as a teacher. I purposely plan how long I will be writing. With that plan in mind guilt does not set in that easily.
I write with a writing group on writing group daily, when possible on Zoom. This is the time to craft pieces or write my stories in order to beat those word counts and deadlines.
With my writing calendar in tow, the dates keep creeping on me. There is one writing project I am working on at the moment which is drawing on my meagre time for writing a 2,500 word count of fiction. The story although planned keeps growing in my head, I need time to get it on paper or on screen.
There’s also a nonet needing my attention with it’s deadline also drawing near. I guess I like the challenge of deadlines. It keeps me in check and if necessary keep me up till the wee hours of the morning.
I like my peace and quiet, so I write with no music or background noise. It seems different in my classroom where students ask for gentle instrumentals to get their writing flowing.
I look forward to March, I try to write whatever comes to me and read and comment on many slices. That also fills my time. In April I have a poetry challenge. I also write with my friends around the world monthly.
Did I mention my daily journalling? Fortunately I have the best diary that has a few lines for each day, that allows me to capture the most significant experiences.
