Words are Gifts

  • We Write

Walking up the stairs, different feelings flowed. The anxious, the not-so sure and the joyful. After school on Friday they walked up four flights of stairs. This was the first day of our journaling club. A question I overheard was, “How can we write for an hour?” I pretended I had not heard that. This Continue reading

  • Morning Routine and Ride

This morning I felt different. As I was thinking about writing my slice I had many thoughts going on. I planned to write a beautiful slice about friendship, from a visit yesterday but decided to wait for another idea. I kept thinking as I want my slices this month to be about my day, this Continue reading

  • The Market From Above

We climbed up three floors to get to the top. The concrete stairs were dusty and had no banisters, instead the sides of the stairs were used as narrow stalls for imported products, mainly cosmetics and hair products. At each stall, a collection of products were piled high, sometimes showcased in a glass faced cabinet. Continue reading

  • Where I Am

A wild breeze zooming around my ears A whir circling beside me Humming lightly to remind me it’s there Blinds blocking the pitch dark A leaf from my notebook slapping against my laptop Sometimes slapping against another The top of my desk strewn with all sorts of stationery My Bible beckoning Books many books some Continue reading

  • The Birds

Inspired by Clare Walker Leslie’s Book, The Curious Nature Guide, I wrote this from the chapter, “Begin Where You Are.” Early morning birds chirping Reminds me of my youth When the birds were in the city One a-plenty The crow, cawing The pigeons cooing Talking to each other Perhaps Was that a croak? I wonder Continue reading

  • Reliving My Visit

A few summers ago, I traveled to visit my Uncle S at an old people’s home in Maryland. A book I’m reading took me to a similar setting when the author described the protagonist visiting her ailing grandmother. The description in the book triggered this memory; the whiff of cleaning fluid that woke me up Continue reading

  • Different Shades of Blue

It’s been a struggle fitting in my long walks this school year. My exercise regime has totally changed. Just pulling a bit here and there, literally. I figured out that waiting for the Saturday morning walk would not suffice, I decided to join S on the very early, morning walk, on the campus , a Continue reading

  • Bashing Greens

A bash of greens  Hits your eyes Mesmerises your sight In pots, on beds, on tables Standing tall To the garden Capture the serene Changes one’s mood Heals your being From God knows where Plants talk to us In whispers  only we can ‘get’ only we can ‘capture’ only we can ‘understand’ An appreciation of Continue reading

  • Nature’s Way

All deflated by the spitting Heads bowed, hopes quashed Walking slowly, through the sand Hoping the spots would seize Still upset, an abrupt end Walked through the sand Friends slow down Searching for lunchboxes Shouting back to friends, “We are coming!” Still drizzling increased, Jostling enjoyed by a few Spotted faces of glasses Time to Continue reading

  • Thinking About My Writing

I have not written for a while, since the 31st of March 2023. I am really grateful for the opportunity to write and comment throughout the month of March. It’s made me think about ways to keep writing and to write creatively. Apart from journalling regularly, I have written a couple of picture books and Continue reading

About Me

I am an Elementary school teacher , I taught at an International IB School in Accra, Ghana. I am now teaching in Hanoi. Writing is my passion and I try to write daily, at least in my sentence a day journal, to capture all the blessings around me. I write with groups of writers, such as Teach Write and sometimes Ethical ELA. I also encourage my friends to write , so I created a platform to make that possible -Writing Run.
