Words are Gifts

At the Slicer Party

Thank you Leigh Anne for the invitation to the slicer party.

For the word buffet, I will contribute:

Ethereal;  extremely delicate and light in a way that seems not to be of this world: Ethereal was used by Denise Krebs in a comment to my post last week. I honestly was not sure what it meant. It sent me to the dictionary and the thesaurus where I found many other synonyms.

Flamboyant; (of a person or their behaviour) tending to attract attention because of their exuberance, confidence, and stylishness or bright, colourful, and very noticeable. Flamboyant is a word I use often in my speech. Whenever I use it I get a few stares, I wonder why.

Onus; something that is one’s duty or responsibility: Onus, was used a lot in one of my educational settings. I guess it made me a stronger student in a way.

Rambunctious; uncontrollably exuberant; boisterous: Rambunctious is the description of the character of a book I read to a group of students. It is a book written buy a local author which has an extremely engaging storyline.

Nugget; a small lump of gold or other precious metal found ready-formed in the earth: a small chunk or lump of another substance: a valuable idea or fact: Nuggets are what our parents fed us, now we are passing them on to our children.

I hope my contribution of the words above will make the buffet tastier.

  1. Juliette, “ethereal” is one of my favorite words. I love this description of ‘nugget’: “a valuable idea or fact: Nuggets are what our parents fed us, now we are passing them on to our children.” What compelling and tasty selections you bring to the buffet!

  2. This is a wonderful collection of words. I like to jot down words that appeal to me, but that I often neglect to use. Then I try to incorporate them into my spoken and written language. I’m adding these to my collection. Thanks!

  6. Ah, Juliette, I just came to check out the other word buffet posts because I made one today too. Thank you for the shoutout. I like the word onus, but I don’t feel like I know how to use it properly. I love your definition of nugget here, too. I bought some gold nugget candies for a pot of gold for St. Patrick’s Day, but I forget that it has that meaning of imparting nuggets of wisdom. Nice post!

  7. Flamboyant and rambunctious have great flare. They’re not in my everyday vocabulary but I love to see and hear them when they cross my path.
