She tapped each letter while he piped the sound.
Covering for a teacher, with little time to plan, she suggested, her two students teach me what they’ve been learning. I was mesmerised! What I observed was a testament of super teaching and students who have soaked in the power of great instruction.
One student took the role of teacher while the other responded to her instruction. As she tapped each letter on the table the other responded with the sound the letter or combination of letters make. This went on for over five minutes. I was in awe, haven’t ever observed such a perfect and meaningful role play.
They did not stop at the letter and groups of letter sounds. She quickly changed gears and pulled out a set of cards.
The other shouted, ” Let’s do nonsense words.”
She knew exactly what to do, sorting the cards into groups, while the other waited patiently. She had three columns and started adding, pulling and changing the letters that form the words, the other’s role was to mention the word that was being created. It was so well choreographed. A celebration really! I was sitting there in awe of their teacher.
All I was left to do, was to congratulate the two students, record a short video for their teacher and encourage them to use the strategies they are learning in their writing.
