Joy at Playtime

As I sit under the patio thinking about all that needs to be completed. I see her in the dainty, dark, blue dress. Pushing her friend on the bowl-like swing. She has such a happy look, even though she is the one exerting all her energy. I decide to write a slice and start typing.

The look on her face from a distance cheers me up. All around us are the squeals and giggles from the students on the playground.

She is now gripping the two chains holding up the swing, her yellow belt flowing merrily around her. Still, her face is all lit up, as she pushes even harder.

When I look up, her friend is pushing the bowl of the swing from behind. It’s her turn to be pampered, happily she holds onto the two chains, this time as the passenger not the driver.

For a short while, they have more friends come to help push the swing. She is now in the bowl with her friend. They are enjoying the ride together. When I look up again, all their friends are gone leaving the two of them, to start all over again.

Oops! She pushes the swing and climbs onto the edge of the bowl and swings it slowly. Her friend lies in the bowl and the swing slowly comes to a stop.

They leave the swing and walk away to find joy elsewhere.

  3. My kids come to school dreaming about play. One day it was a half day and one of my students said, “Oh, half day, so we can eat and play?” I burst out laughing.

About Me

I am an Elementary school teacher , I taught at an International IB School in Accra, Ghana. I am now teaching in Hanoi. Writing is my passion and I try to write daily, at least in my sentence a day journal, to capture all the blessings around me. I write with groups of writers, such as Teach Write and sometimes Ethical ELA. I also encourage my friends to write , so I created a platform to make that possible -Writing Run.
