Words are Gifts

Tuesday’s End

Tuesday’s school day ended with a group of students volunteering to read a selection of “Poems for Mindfulness” from my ‘book of the moment’, My Thoughts Are Clouds by Georgia Heard.

At the end of a hectic day, when Tuesday felt like Friday and students were bustling about, we replaced the Read Aloud of our chapter book with the reading of poems students selected.

The room was as quiet as dawn, each of the students found a comfortable space and listened intensely to their friends reading aloud, one of the poems, they selected from the book.

The atmosphere was peaceful, a huge contrast to minutes before they entered the class. I sat quietly soaking in the calm voices of my fifth grade readers.

  1. This is a good idea! I might use that one afternoon. Thank you for sharing! It will be interesting to see how tomorrow afternoon goes.
