  • Celebrations All Around

As we celebrate Ghana’s Independence day anniversary today. I chose to inform my Saturday reading class, yesterday, about this exceptional children’s author, playwright (storyteller) and generally an Arts advocate. It was our short history lesson and they participated by interacting with her play and taking notes. My initial wondering was to find out how much… Continue reading

  • My Soothing Visits

Once or twice a week, after a hard day’s work, I seek my brief respite at my sister’s commercial garden. Coincidentally, it’s only a five minute walk from my school, as fate would have it, in this vast city, this is where the garden surfaced. What this visit sheds on me, I cannot describe with… Continue reading

  • The Story I Wrote

A year ago, I wrote a story when I could not find an appropriate one to read to local students about our Independence celebration. The main character of my story is Ama. She lived in a Ghanaian village. Ama had a welcome opportunity to travel to the city to live with a family. A diligent… Continue reading

  • Old Times and New

Like old times we attended a Thanksgiving service and Remembrance event for a young, family friend. Like new times we had our flamboyant masks firmly fixed on our faces.` Like old times we sat in pews, listening to the amazing voices of the youthful choir. Like new times the whiff of hand sanitizer filled the… Continue reading

We gave each other five minutes to write a Flash Fiction, of a classic story. I read about this idea from a post by the Two Writing Teachers. Writing with my small group of students who had also selected their own classic stories. We wrote. Here’s a slightly revised version of my story. Of course… Continue reading

  • Still Writing

Yes I’ve been writing. I tried to keep up this practice of writing daily since we last met. It has been quite challenging sometimes, especially at the beginning of the school year when it was ‘all change’. A new grade level, new school building, new work routine and so much to learn about my students… Continue reading

  • My Two Sentence Story

Hand in hand, strolling along the beach, watched by the the undulating waves, the gritty, salty smell and the expanse of the sea, set the scene. That calmness allowed the excited two to share the possibility of spending the rest of their lives together. I wrote my first ever two sentence love story today. That… Continue reading

When P has an invitation these days it’s everybody’s issue. We have to listen, she knows she has to get us involved in the dropping and picking up, so the announcement happens early. P my ninth grader’s life is different now she is in boarding school, so are her friendships. I remember writing about her… Continue reading

  • Life -Long Friends

I wonder why these friendships seem like a dream a welcome dream that stretches far beyond the sleep The inner joy they emanate just like ripples in the sea they reach out further into the horizon Time- long gone But the ripples go beyond our imagination so soothing and enchanting These friendships, I’ve caught Are… Continue reading

  • Walk Cancelled

Dressed. Ready. Standing at the gate, waiting for the ride to the university campus, our walking track, in my luminous pink top and walking shorts. I had asked S to be at my gate for 4.40pm. I held my bag of chilled water and stood there waiting as cars drove past. A few droplets fell,… Continue reading

About Me

I am an Elementary school teacher , I taught at an International IB School in Accra, Ghana. I am now teaching in Hanoi. Writing is my passion and I try to write daily, at least in my sentence a day journal, to capture all the blessings around me. I write with groups of writers, such as Teach Write and sometimes Ethical ELA. I also encourage my friends to write , so I created a platform to make that possible -Writing Run.
