A Few Good Comments

“I need to work on that!”

“I didn’t do well.”

“It looks like I did not do enough.”

” I need to work on organisation.”

These are a few comments from my students after they self- assessed their writing pre-assessment, using a checklist.

I noted the power of self assessment today as my students now know exactly what they will be learning about the topic and what they will be taught.

There are many benefits to students’ self-assessment. I was glad to hear the comments, especially as I’m now planning my lessons and can use all the qualitative information including their comments to inform my planning.

    Good for you for helping students practice self-assessment. It’s such an important skill but so hard to develop.

    Good for you. Preassessments can be a bit scary for some students, but I love how you used it as a learning opportunity for you and for them.

    Self assessments and goal setting are two best practices I enjoy using with students. When they are in control of their learning it is so much more relevant and powerful.

I am an Elementary school teacher , I taught at an International IB School in Accra, Ghana. I am now teaching in Hanoi. Writing is my passion and I try to write daily, at least in my sentence a day journal, to capture all the blessings around me.
